Delhi News Live Updates, News Today, May 26, 2023:

Tihar Jail Officials Transferred After Gangster's Murder

Following the murder of gangster Tillu Tajpuriya inside Tihar jail in early May, the Delhi High Court expressed strong criticism towards the jail authorities and remarked that the incident had deeply impacted the judicial system. As a result, eighty police officials, including five Deputy Superintendents, nine Assistant Superintendents, eight head wardens, and fifty wardens working at Tihar jail, were transferred on Friday, according to Tihar officials. Tajpuriya, who was a prime suspect in the 2021 Rohini court shootout case, was reportedly killed by four rival gangsters within the premises of Tihar jail on May 2. A video that surfaced earlier this month showed Tajpuriya being assaulted and stabbed by fellow inmates while jail and police officials stood by, providing little intervention.

Interim Bail Granted to Former AAP Minister Satyendra Jain

The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Minister Satyendra Jain for a period of six weeks on medical grounds. This decision comes after Jain, who has been incarcerated in Tihar Jail since May of last year on charges of money laundering, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Lok Nayak Hospital due to an injury sustained while slipping inside the prison bathroom.

Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi Receives No-Objection Certificate for Ordinary Passport

In another development, a Delhi court has granted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the issuance of an "ordinary passport." This follows Gandhi's surrender of his diplomatic passport after his disqualification as a Member of Parliament. The court, situated at Rouse Avenue, has granted a three-year NOC to Gandhi, albeit not for the requested ten years. Gandhi's lawyer was informed by the judge, as reported by news agency PTI, "I'm partly allowing your application. Not for 10 years but three years."
